Virtual Public Meeting, May 13, 2021:

The City hosted a virtual public meeting on Thursday, May 13, 2021, to discuss the proposed design of the 1st St Reconstruction project. At the meeting, exhibits of the proposed design were discussed and time was provided for feedback and questions.

Project Summary:

This project will reconstruct 1st Street between Fairview Street and College Avenue. Work may extend west as far as Patterson Drive or as far east as Walnut Street depending on detailed design. The project is expected to include one travel lane in each direction; likely replacement of water, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer infrastructure; tree plots separating the road from sidewalks on both sides of the street; traffic calming or other enhancements consistent with the Bloomington Transportation Plan’s designation as a Neighborhood Greenway route; and other features as necessary. The project would coordinate closely with redevelopment efforts for the adjacent hospital site. This project is expected to require some right of way acquisition.

Project Timeline:

Design: 2020-2022
Public Input: Thursday, May 13, 2021 6-7pm
Right of Way Acquisition: 2022
Construction is expected to begin in March or April 2024

Bids are due in the City Hall Atrium by 11:30 AM on Monday, December 19th, 2022. Bids will be opened and read aloud at a work session of the Board of Public Works, City Hall, 401 North Morton Street at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Monday, December 19th, 2022.
