Project Description

This project was identified in the Jackson Creek Trail Master Plan completed in 2013 as a critical pedestrian/cyclist connectivity corridor.

The purpose of the project is to improve the safety and mobility of pedestrians and bicyclists. The project will make connections between residents and several key destinations in the City of Bloomington.   The project makes connections to Jackson Creek Middle School, Sherwood Oaks Park, Childs Elementary School, South East Park, the Goat Farm (Park), and Phase 1 of the Jackson Creek Trail.

The proposed facilities will accommodate two-way bicycle and pedestrian traffic and separate bicyclists from the roadway.  This is important for children that need to be able to safely reach parks and schools along the routes.

From the south, the new path will connect to the existing path at the intersection of Sare Road and Rhorer Road, continue west along Rhorer Road to the exiting driveway, just east of Jackson Creek.  This segment will contain a new pedestrian bridge across Jackson Creek.  From there, a trail will be constructed heading north along the creek to the existing trail at Southern Oaks Park.

The northern section will begin at the High-Winslow-Rogers round-a-bout, and then head north along the eastern right-of-way on High Street to Arden Drive.  From there the path will head east with the right-of-way of Arden Drive and connect to the southern entrance of South East Park.

Butler, Fairman & Seufert, Inc. is the engineering consultant for this project.
