Housing and Neighborhood Development Department Invites Neighborhood Associations to Apply for 2019 Grants

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington’s Housing and Neighborhood Development Department (HAND) is hosting an informational meeting Tuesday, January 29 about funding for Neighborhood Improvement Grants available to Neighborhood/Homeowners Associations for fiscal year 2019. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the McCloskey Room (Room 135) at City Hall, 401 North Morton Street.

The Neighborhood Improvement Grant program gives residents an opportunity to have direct input and influence into the improvement of Bloomington’s neighborhoods. The program provides funding for non-traditional capital projects with community-wide benefit, which would not otherwise be eligible for City funds.

HAND has been making Neighborhood Improvement Grants each year since March 1998. Using allocations ranging from $400 to $30,000, neighborhoods across Bloomington have planted trees in the right-of-way;  installed informational signage, lighting, benches, and playground equipment; restored historic sidewalks; and built a park shelter.

The January 29 meeting will offer prospective applicants an overview of the grant process and distribution of applications. Neighborhoods must indicate their intention to apply for funds with a letter of intent by February 18 at 4 pm, and submit applications by March 25 at 4 pm.  More information about Neighborhood Improvement Grants and related events and funding opportunities is available at https://bloomington.in.gov/sites/default/files/2018-11/2019%20Calendar.pub_.pdf
