City Accepting Nominations for Be More Volunteer Awards
Bloomington, Ind. - City of Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton has announced that nominations are being accepted through February 8 for the Be More Awards, the community volunteer awards presented by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network. Criteria for the awards and the nomination form are available at https://www.bloomingtonvolunteernetwork.org/bemore.
“The Be More Awards are an opportunity to shine a spotlight on our community’s incredible volunteer spirit. Nominating an individual or group who has committed time and talents to better our community is a great way to recognize their good works and inspire others,” said Lucy Schaich, interim director of the Volunteer Network.
Nominations may be submitted by members of the general public, community agencies or family members. Ten awards will be made in a variety of categories, although not all existing categories are recognized each year. Demographic categories include youth, college student, and lifetime of service. Issue-oriented categories include arts/culture, wellness/recreation/fitness, animal welfare, education/literacy, and environmental sustainability. Other categories include board member service, volunteer groups, and an uncategorized award called Be More Bloomington.
The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County awards each of the ten winners a $500 grant for the nonprofit organization where they volunteer. Additional co-sponsors include the IU Credit Union, the United Way of Monroe County, the City’s Community and Family Resources Department and WTIU Public Television.
The Be More Awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, March 26 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave. Nominees and nominators will be invited to a private reception before the awards presentation. The awards presentation event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
