Lucy Schaich Named Bloomington Volunteer Network Coordinator

Bloomington, Ind. - Lucy Schaich has been named coordinator of the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network (CBVN), a program of the Community and Family Resources Department (CFRD).  A graduate of Indiana University, Schaich served as the assistant coordinator for the CBVN from 2000 until 2018, when she became the volunteer network’s interim director.  Schaich succeeds Bet Savich, who retired in 2018 after having served the City of Bloomington for 28 years, 23 as CBVN coordinator. Schaich’s annual salary is $54,551.

Established in 1980 as the Bloomington Volunteer Action Center by then-Mayor Frank McCloskey, the CBVN aims to inspire, support, and celebrate volunteerism in our community. The network serves as a clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities and a conduit between volunteers of all ages and abilities and more than 300 nonprofit community partner organizations.  At the network’s website (https://bloomington.in.gov/volunteer), prospective volunteers may review opportunities to serve and receive training, and agencies may list material needs and access additional resources in order to build effective volunteer projects, programs, and partnerships.

“Lucy brings tremendous institutional knowledge, both of the City and our community partners, to this leadership role,” said CFRD Director Beverly Calender-Anderson.  “I am grateful for Lucy’s ongoing commitment to promoting engagement and nurturing the connections that make the community better.”

Each spring the CBVN toasts the community’s most dedicated volunteers and, together with its sponsors, makes financial contributions to the volunteers' respective agencies with the Be More Awards.  Information about the 2019 award recipients is available at https://www.bloomingtonvolunteernetwork.org/bemore/2019recipients/.  The call for nominations for the 2020 Be More Awards opens December 2019.
