Inaugural Fall Family Bike Fest to Feature Night Ride, Bike Swap, Demos, and Film Screenings

Bloomington, Ind. - Fall Family Bike Fest 2019 takes place at multiple venues across Bloomington Thursday through Sunday, October 10-13.  Presented by the City of Bloomington with support from the Bloomington Community Bike Project, Indiana University Transportation Demand Management, and the Monroe County Public Library, the inaugural Bike Fest seeks to celebrate and increase the visibility of unrecognized and underserved members of the bike/pedestrian community.

Open to all, the festival will host a range of free events designed to promote family bike commuting, recognize the diversity within the local bike/ped community, and increase connections within it, including e-bike and family/cargo bike demos, an open house/night ride hosted by the Bike Project, and a community bike swap, among other activities.

Winners of Local-Motion Grants will be announced at the screening of the documentary Motherload at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, Saturday, October 12 at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets to the free screening may be reserved here.  Awarded by the City of Bloomington Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Commission (BPSC), the grants fund projects led by nonprofit organizations, locally owned businesses, and neighborhood associations that celebrate and promote Bloomington’s walk- and bike-friendly culture and advance active mobility accessibility.

More information about the Fall Family Bike Fest is available through Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Mallory Rickbeil at rickbeilm@bloomington.in.gov or 812-349-3529.
