City of Bloomington Commission on the Status of Black Males Seeks Nominations for Outstanding Black Male and Female Leaders of Tomorrow Awards

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Commission on the Status of Black Males (CSBM) is seeking nominees for the 2020 Outstanding Black Male and Black Female Leader of Tomorrow Awards. 

The Outstanding Black Male and Black Female Leader of Tomorrow Awards are presented annually to a Black/African-American man and a Black/African-American woman in both the high school and the young adult category for outstanding leadership, scholarship, and involvement in making tangible, visible, and meaningful contributions to the Bloomington community. To be eligible for the high school award, nominees must currently live in Bloomington/Monroe County and be enrolled in high school.  To be eligible for the adult awards, nominees must currently live in Bloomington/Monroe County and not be older than 30 years of age.

“The Outstanding Leader of Tomorrow Awards were created to encourage the development of future leaders and recognize local contributions by young African-Americans,” said Seth Debro, CSBM chairperson. “CSBM is excited to honor four notable young men and women who are making an impact on our community.”

2019 award recipients include Tyler Kelly, Kira Richardson, Naomi Young, and Samuel Young III.

The nomination must be submitted online or in the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department, 401 N. Morton St., Suite 260. The deadline for submission of nominations is Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

Award recipients will be announced at the 2020 City of Bloomington Black History Month Gala on Saturday, February 29, 2020.  The Gala will take place at Woolery Mill, 2250 W Sunstone Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403. Tickets for the Gala go on sale January 30, 2020 and will be available through the Buskirk-Chumley Theater Box Office at 114 E. Kirkwood Ave. or online
