City Council to Consider Local Income Tax Increase and Proposed Investments
Bloomington, Ind. - Mayor John Hamilton has asked the Bloomington Common Council to consider Resolution 20-13, proposing an ordinance to increase the Monroe County Local Income Tax (LIT) by 0.25% for the purpose of economic development. The proposed LIT increase represents the third phase of the mayor’s Recover Forward initiative to facilitate Bloomington’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic while expanding economic, racial, and climate justice in the long term.
Earlier today, council members received materials pertinent to the request in their packet for the special session to be held on September 9, including the draft resolution, a memorandum providing the reasons for enacting the LIT increase and information on the LIT process and the proposed change, and a list of investments the revenues generated could support. These materials may be reviewed at this link to the council packet.
