Parks and Recreation offers programs that help make Bloomington an active community!

Fitness in the Park

  • No pre-registration required; just show up and pay $10 per person, per class with cash or credit card.
  • A 10-class Punch Pass, good for participation in any 10 indoor or outdoor Fitness in the Park classes at Switchyard Park in 2025, is available for $90. All punch passes will expire Dec. 31, 2025.
  • Fitness in the Park classes take place on the main stage at Switchyard Park. Visit Switchyard Park for general information, including amenities and directions.
  • In order for individuals with disabilities to participate as fully as possible, reasonable accommodations are provided for Parks and Recreation programs. For more information or to request assistance, email Amy Shrake, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, or call 812-349-3747.

Tai Chi

A moving meditation in the form of a series of gentle exercises to create harmony and cultivate our inner life energy (qi) to flow smoothly and powerfully through the body. Mondays, 7/7–8/25 from 7–8 p.m.

ZUMBA

An exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness party that's moving millions of people toward joy and health! Tuesdays, 7/8–8/26 from 7–8 p.m.

Yoga

This Hatha-style class is designed to introduce fundamental yoga postures that build strength, balance and flexibility. Fridays, 7/11-8/29 from noon-1 p.m.

Walking with Ease

  • Improving mobility, strengthening muscles, and reducing stiffness with each step-perfect for those with arthritis or anyone looking to move better, The Arthritis Foundation's Walking with Ease program is a structured and evidence-based initiative designed to alleviate chronic pain through regular group walking activities.
  • Instructor-led walks take place at local parks and trails, meeting three times per week for six weeks. The hour consists of an active warm up and stretching, education on physical activity, and a guided walk. Stroll through scenic parks, loosen up stiff joints, and boost your energy-all at your own pace! Walk length and difficulty is individualized for each participant. Participants can expect to walk approximately 20 to 40 minutes each session.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, Sept. 8-Oct. 17 from 9-10 a.m. at Switchyard Park.
