Paving Begins August 4 on North Walnut Street
The City of Bloomington will begin a roadway improvement project on Monday, August 4, along North Walnut Street, starting at the State Road 45 Bypass and continuing north to Old State Road 37, with completion anticipated by November. The road will remain open during construction, and access to local businesses and residences will be maintained. However, motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible.
The project includes asphalt resurfacing, curb ramp replacements, curb and guardrail repairs, excess pavement removal, and updated signage and pavement markings. As part of this effort to improve safety and traffic flow:
A new left turn lane will be installed at Walnut Street and Blue Ridge Drive for southbound traffic turning into the Blue Ridge Neighborhood;
Southbound Walnut Street will be reconfigured to a single travel lane through the project limits, replacing the current merge pattern of one-to-two-to-one lanes
Up to 50% of the project funding is provided by the Community Crossings Matching Grant program, a partnership between Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and local governments to invest in road and bridge improvements that strengthen Indiana’s transportation network.
