It is estimated that over 2 million bicycles in the United States are stolen each year. The City of Bloomington encourages owners to register their bicycles with Bike Index, a nation-wide non-profit bike registry. This FREE service makes it more likely that you will be reunited with your bike should it go missing. Here’s how it works:

  1. Register your bike(s): Complete this form to submit your contact information, bike manufacturer, serial number, photos, color, type, and other requested information.
  2. Alert the community:  If your bike goes missing, mark as lost or stolen to notify the entire Bike Index community.
  3. File a police report with BPD: Have all of your bike information and photos available when making a police report. You will be given a case number or future updates and follow up actions. bloomington.in.gov/public-safety/accident-reports
  4. The community responds: Community members see your bike information, increasing the likelihood of recovery. If you or someone else sees your bike don’t try to recover it, please contact the Police directly.

You may also register items other than bikes, including scooters, skateboards, strollers, etc.
