Griffy Lake Boathouse Operations

Beginning opening day on Saturday, May 23, 2020, watercraft (canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboard) rentals are NOT available for walk-up, on-site rental. If you would like to rent a watercraft for a two-hour time period on Griffy Lake, your reservation must be made in advance.

Griffy Lake Boathouse Safety Protocols

  1. Watercraft rentals must be made over the phone in advance; no walk-up rentals are permitted. Call the Griffy Lake boathouse at 812-349-3732 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to reserve a watercraft. 
  2. Maximum watercraft rental time is two hours. Group size is limited to 10 or fewer people.
  3. Restrooms at the Griffy Lake boathouse remain closed to the public. Please plan accordingly.
  4. Boathouse occupancy limited to three people at a time (including boathouse staff).
  5. Guests will be greeted and given instructions outside the boathouse, to reduce time spent in a confined space.
  6. The back window and front doors of the boathouse will remain open to allow for air flow.
  7. All equipment, including paddles, and watercraft surfaces (seats/edges/handles) that come in direct contact with guests will be disinfected with Clorox wipes between uses.
  8. All PFDs (life jackets and flotation cushions) will be sprayed with Lysol disinfectant between uses.
  9. Retail counter space and items are wiped down regularly. Timing depends on foot traffic and customer interactions.
  10. Additional hand sanitizer stations, at retail counter and near restrooms (even when closed).
  11. Modified boat launches that reduce close proximity of staff and customers.
  12. Boat launch railing will be wiped down between uses.
  13. The following will be removed from public access until further notice: Eco Outpost interactive display, Explorer Backpacks, field guide and binocular rentals, community sunscreen, and the water cooler.
  14. Bloomington Parks and Recreation has put into place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. However, we cannot guarantee that you will not contract an illness. Please do your part to protect your health and the health of others.

 

May-August: Daily, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
September: Daily, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
October: Saturday and Sunday only, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
November-March: Closed

Last boat rental one hour prior to closing.

Rented watercraft returned to the boathouse after closing are subject to a minimum $20 late fee. A minimum $50 replacement fee is charged for lost, stolen, or damaged rental items.

 

Boating on Griffy Lake

Griffy Lake accepts cash, checks, and credit and debit cards (MasterCard, Visa and Discover only) for boat rentals, and for the purchase of 10-Rental passes and private boat launch fees. Griffy's pier, as well as its canoe and kayak launch, is accessible.

Good for 10, one-hour watercraft rentals. Available for purchase at the boathouse during regular business hours.

Boat motors are limited to electric trolling motors only.
