In 2025 I have chosen to open City Council meetings with historical facts and information related to cultural diversity, equity, and related concepts. I hope this information will be educational, interesting, and ground us in place and time as relates to not only the less desirable parts of our shared histories, but also the progress we have made toward a more just and equitable future and what we must continue to strive toward every day.
Ideally these points of interest will be especially applicable to local milestones (for Bloomington, Monroe County, or the state of Indiana). These should be relatively quick and simple facts to share that do not require lengthy explanations but might encourage people to learn more.
