I would like to compliment the Animal Control department for a job well done. I live in College Mall Apts. on E. 2nd St. near the Mall. There was a clearly injured rabbit hunched down at the play ground area for over 8 hrs that wouldn't move even when approached. The shoulder of the rabbit seemed dislocated and I was afraid a child would try to pick it up, causing severe pain to the animal who would seriously claw or bite the child. I decided to call Animal Control and an officer was sent out who arrived quickly and did a thorough search of the playground area. What we saw when she arrived was one rabbit, somewhat unafraid of human proximity, but hopping around in a reasonably normal fashion. The spot was clear where the injured rabbit had been sitting. Apparently what happened was the rabbit managed, after hours of painful effort, to nudge its shoulder joint back into place, and was just trying things out again as the officer arrived. No way to anticipate that happening. Having the Animal Control officers respond to these situations that may seem innocuous is the right policy. Things could easily have turned out differently and the officer's response could have saved a serious injury to a child, as this occurred exactly at the playground area of College Mall Apts. In a wildlife friendly town like ours, human-animal interactions are very common, and children don't always show the proper caution. Many thanks to that officer and the City. Job well done.

4011 E Morningside has been vacant for nearly two years. They mow but some of the weeds are getting pretty intense. Biggest thing is can you ask whoever the owner is (not sure where they live) to move the never used old recycling and trash can in drive to a nonvisible location. Are trash now. Ideally the new carts too since never used anymore. But the old ones at least should not be sitting in the drive forever.

Car AGAIN parked in the grass. City addressed this earlier this year. They know better. Please contact them to remove. Not a good "entry" to the neighborhood look.

They built a new sidewalk on the corner of a big apartment complex, but it juts out into the street. Is that up to Code?

Hi, My roommate and I have been experiencing skin problems (i.e. dryness, flaking and a lot of sudden acne when we both have never had acne) for the past couple weeks and we have ruled out any other changes we have made. We were notified by our landlord that the city of Bloomington was making changes in the water system, and when we went home out of state for a week, the skin problems resolved. I would like to understand what behavior would indicate that a streetlight is starting to fail. The streetlight at this location is sometimes working properly (i.e., full brightness) when it's dark, off when it's light/bright during the day, and then there are times where the light is only at ~25% brightness, or it goes completely dark during the night time ... which, to me, defeats the purpose of having the streetlight in the first place. I'm not sure if that's considered normal operation or if that means it's starting to have problems. The neighbors whose homes are in front of this streetlight are worried whether it's working properly. More important, they are concerned and don't feel safe when they go out at night and the streetlight is "off". I don't know if this indicates a problem, so wanted to ask to have it looked into, as appropriate. Thanks, Rob Aney robaney@yahoo.com
