City Construction Projects

E 19th St, Bloomington, IN, USA

Case Date:
12/12/2022

The apartment construction by Varsity properties on East 19th Street has caused an excessive level of dust on the road. Whenever a vehicle drives by, the dust becomes airborne. In addition, the dust also falls on to nearby vehicles, causing a significant amount of scratches and inconvenience. No effort has been made to clean up the street. It is especially disgusting to walk on when it rains.

Blocked Sidewalk

Case Date:
3/18/2021

Sidewalk on south side of 17th st, across from 924 w 17th. Mud has again accumulated from the runoff at the tri north construction site. When it's raining, the whole hillside now drains onto the sidewalk, from the tri north driveway west to the western property line. This sidewalk gets the direct runoff of a whole acre now. The sidewalk is now a culvert for the hillside. Nothing serves as a culvert for the sidewalk. A river flows through the sidewalk. This isn't going to go away when the grass grows back. It will be a complicated and expensive problem to solve. Please make addressing this drainage problem a condition of signing off on their work and getting their ROW escrow back, or this sedimentation will continue indefinitely. Thanks!

Illegal Discharge (Storm Sewers)

Case Date:
3/24/2021

Walking by 419 Highland Street I have noticed water being discharged from a pipe leading from the house to the street. It appears to be intermittent so I suspect it is from the washing machine. Based on the staining and algae in the street I suspect that it has been going on for some time.

Blocked Sidewalk

Case Date:
5/16/2021

Sidewalk on south side of W 17th just east of tri north construction entrance covered with mud again. I can't overemphasize that the sidewalk itself is serving as a culvert to drain several acres and this problem will not go away on its own when the construction crews leave. I'll try to remember to come out here with a ruler when it rains next week to record the depth of the creek. Kids will be using this sidewalk to walk to school even on rainy days and their shoes should not be completely submerged!! We are going to look into this today (5/17). We believe that a soil stockpile and a storm drain with inlet protection is not allowing water to flow into the storm drain. We are going to investigate again and see if we can identify the exact issue.

Drainage or Runoff

Case Date:
4/14/2022

Last night there was mud and new stones, as well as pretty deep ponding, on W. 17th St. in front of Tri-North Middle School (facing north). Perhaps it’s the first big rain since that project finished? The water, mud, and stones were just pouring down the driveway onto Tri-North. The construction head of the Tri-North project wasn’t very proactive about erosion control from the beginning of the project last year. And the designers must not have been careful enough when planning for rain.

Debris Removal

Case Date:
7/10/2023

I am one of the Utility Dept. volunteers checking and clearing storm drains in Sycamore Knolls. I and my fellow volunteers having been clearing storm drains at the intersection of Queensway and Montclair, Queensway from High to Montclair, and Sussex Dr from Queensway to Montclair. We have been making piles of plant and street debris near some of the drains. They are now getting large and because of their mix of plant and asphalt debris cannot put them in the weekly waste pickups. Would it be possible for a city street crew to remove these piles near the following locations? North sides of the Montclair and Queensway, Southside of the Chelsey and Queensway, and Sussex Dr. near 1912-1919 and 2216 -2219 Thank you
