Sent Monday, May 21: "I have been to your office to complain about the mess at 823 w. 7th street. The front porch is covered with trash that has been accumulating for 15-20 years. The back and side yards are overgrown and contain litter and receptacles that can fill with standing water. The property is a breeding ground for mosquitos, rats, and other pests. I and several neighbors believe it poses a risk to public health. Your enforcement officer took a look, but told me that nothing was ticketable. I respectfully disagree. While the overgrown vegetation is not “turf grass”, it is a menace and eyesore. The garbage on the porch attracts human as well as animal pests. It invites others to litter and dump on the property. Although I was at your office, I was not given a complaint form to sign. Nor was I able to submit a complaint on your website. (I don’t know why unless it was my iPad) I definitely want to file an official complaint and have it kept on record. I also ask you to reconsider and help us to clean up this blight on the neighborhood. Thank you."

Ms Dwyer contacted me last week and I met her at her house this morning. She is concerned about a sinkhole forming in her yard again and the amount of water that ponds on the south side of her house. This is a historical problem. We made some storm improvements in the alley east of her last year and hoped that would help solve some of her problems but she still has issues and would like to know what she can do. I told her I have asked our crews to video the storm sewer that runs along her yard to make sure the pipe is sound. I told her I would also check our sanitary sewer videos to make sure the sanitary sewer is sound. I explained I would be out of the office for about a week and would get back with her in a couple weeks to let her know what we have found.

"Dear Mr. Hamilton, As my council representative has been ineffective and unsuccessful in dealing with this problem, I am calling on your office for help. For over two years the resident of 1316 South Palmer Avenue has been running a used car lot at his house. There are usually no less than six cars parked in front of his house and across the street from his house at any one time. At least one or two usually have no plates. In addition, his yard is a total mess. He doesn't care about the trash that accumulates in it. If this were a problem in Elm Heights, it would have been taken care of in one day. I understand that one can sell a car from one's property, but this man needs to find a lot that is zoned for selling multiple used cars, and move his business to that place. Please help in moving this used car lot from our street. It is an eye sore and it brings down my property value. I received an email from Ms. Henderson stating the following: "Hi Jane. I want to post you on the condition of the storm water drain beehive in the City's drainage easement within the Brigs Bend cul de sac in Hyde Park. Specifically, I want to bring to your attention to the erosion around the beehive at the northeast corner of the two lots you looked at last year (2712 Olcott and 2737 E. Brigs Bend). On September 10, we had another heavy rain that created a flash flood in our back yard, flooding nearly up to our deck and again flooding Ginny Field’s storage unit under the house (the debris line on her door was just below the 25" mark, the highest level we’ve seen the water rise to). As you can see from the attached photos, the ground around the beehive is cratering as a result of the water erosion. This area is of increasing concern with regard to the potential hazard it presents to children, landscapers, and others who go near. Would you be able to take a look at it and advise? Also, could you please take a look at two small but growing holes (and a third depressed area that seems to be sinking) in the south corner of our lots near the tall, narrow green cable box. We are concerned that the this may be indicative of soil washing out along the storm water drain line. Again, your advice is appreciated."

I took my son for youth video program at Rhino's around 3:30. There were only 3-4 teenagers and the instructor told us to wait a little bit because of their broken door or something. I didn't notice what was the problem. Then he came out from his office and told us about their video program. He said that basically kids borrow cameras and go home or somewhere and do their video project. And I left my son there. right before 6:00 pm I came back to pick him up and my son was sitting on the couch. I asked how the program was and he said they didn't do anything for those 2.5 hours. I couldn't believe him and kept asking questions. he said those teenagers played video games for 2.5 hours and he just watched them. When he said that I remembered that the instructor mentioned to me that "those kids come here to play video games." I know this is a free program, but I have seen many wonderful free programs throughout the country. I was so regretted that your official website has false advertisement. You really should take out that ad from your website.
