Ms Kao contacted Jon Callahan and then me about the culvert under the drive at First United Church. She explained they want to do some improvements to make is safer to mow around the culvert and was hoping someone could give her some advice.
We have lived here for nearly 40 years and the creek water has never looked this bad. Yes, after a heavy rain, it is cloudy, but it hasn't rained for over a week. The water looks very dirty and there is a bad smell, as well. Not sure if this is the department to inform. If not please pass this along. Children play in the creek and there seems to be some type of runoff or other issue that is making the water look bad. Thanks
Thanks Kelsey, The creek has been much clearer lately. I appreciate you following up. Usually when it is cloudy, it clears up in a day or two. I do watch it closely and will let you know, but unless you are able to get out right away, it may be difficult for you to see it when it is looking bad. Mr. Horvath, the sediment in Jackson Creek at Rock Creek Drive may have been a result of construction in the watershed. There is one construction project upstream from your location that may have contributed sediment in the past, but according to our Planning Department who manages the grading permits, that site has since been stabilized. I was in the area last week and observed some utility work being done in the neighborhood, but can't say if that was what caused the sediment in the stream on 2/2/2019. Wet bottom retention pond damaged by beavers, dam eroded and may fail. Water pipe directed to the creek falls short of spilling into the creek by 15 feet and is eroding the bank and exposing 50% of fine-tree roots near the bank.
I received an email from Ms. Henderson stating the following: "Hi Jane. I want to post you on the condition of the storm water drain beehive in the City's drainage easement within the Brigs Bend cul de sac in Hyde Park. Specifically, I want to bring to your attention to the erosion around the beehive at the northeast corner of the two lots you looked at last year (2712 Olcott and 2737 E. Brigs Bend). On September 10, we had another heavy rain that created a flash flood in our back yard, flooding nearly up to our deck and again flooding Ginny Field’s storage unit under the house (the debris line on her door was just below the 25" mark, the highest level we’ve seen the water rise to). As you can see from the attached photos, the ground around the beehive is cratering as a result of the water erosion. This area is of increasing concern with regard to the potential hazard it presents to children, landscapers, and others who go near. Would you be able to take a look at it and advise? Also, could you please take a look at two small but growing holes (and a third depressed area that seems to be sinking) in the south corner of our lots near the tall, narrow green cable box. We are concerned that the this may be indicative of soil washing out along the storm water drain line. Again, your advice is appreciated."
The swale to the west side of our home overfilled as storm water was backed up at the street drains which then flooded the window well to our basement on June 18-19. Although our yard is regularly flooded during heavy storms, the west swale was designed and dug by the City to carry excess water to the street. We believe this swale needs to be dug deeper and lined with rock to stop erosion from occurring to prevent future flooding of our basement. Please send an engineer to evaluate. This problem has been reported several times.
Contractor wants to meet onsite to discuss a storm drainage prroblem and ways to correct it. Address: 2741 S Jalen Ct. Home sits below the curb line and has a swale in the backyard; both of which complicate the matter. The neighboring homes are all higher in elevation and drain straight to this property. Contractor would like to figure out a suitable correction that does not jeopardize CBU infrastructure, etc. Please contact him by phone today to set up a site visit.
Ms Burnham left a VM for me on Aug 24, 2015 but I was out of the office. She said they have some drainage issues with in the yard and is related to a little drainage ditch that runs at the end of the lots.
The hill on East Moore's going up from Sare Rd to Andrew Circle becomes a full on river when it rains, and a bobsled track when that rain freezes. It's very dangerous.
Ms Kim left a voice message this morning. I returned her call this afternoon and she explained she is concerned with the runoff in their back yard. Their neighbor put logs along their back yard and it pushes the runoff over into her back yard. She wants to know if they can do this. I told her this is probably an issue between the neighbors but I would be happy to come out and look at it.
