Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

3517 S Glasgow CIR

Case Date:
6/4/2022

Hello. Last year there was a major rainstorm in Bloomington that managed to adversely affect the storm drainage between my house and the next door neighbor. The storm activity managed to wash out a small corner of soil on the other side of the fence. Now any time it rains and thereafter, the ground is fairly wet (puddles) and the corner with missing soil fills up. This water manages to linger for days from outside the fence and through the yard. I'm requesting someone from Stormwater to visit my home on 10 June 2022; any time of day is fine. I ask for this date because I'm off work and we can survey together. This has been an ongoing issue for some time and I'm seeking suitable remedy. I have additional photos to share, however, seeing this in person would be beneficial. I couldn't include this on the form, however, my work email is: john.r.jerome.civ@army.mil. I'm most appreciative for any time you're able to spare to look at this issue. Thank you. V/r John

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

I've been meaning to report for some time. During major rain events stormwater rushes into my basement in through the sanitary sewer drain. The last time was June 2021 and storm water poured in for 8-10 hours solid. Luckily I have installed a sump pump that kept the overall water level manageable. I've lived at this address for 10+ years and this problem has occurred 3-5 times total. It only happens when the storm water system is overwhelmed. I believe the same happens for my neighbors. Is there anything I can do to prevent more back flow during major rain events?

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

309 E 7th ST

Case Date:
5/31/2022

The drain covers in the 300 block of E. 7th street come loose and pop off whenever a car drives over them. The road is so narrow on the street due to bike lane that the west bound traffic comes too close to the curb and hits the drain covers. Can the city weld them down so they don't pop off?

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

1036 W 6th ST

Case Date:
5/20/2022

All the storm water runoff from the White Oak Cemetery basin, during very hard rains, cannot be handled by the 4-storm drains near the intersection of 7th and Oak Streets. The excess is diverted through the gravel parking of our neighbor at 1025 W 7th, washing the gravel onto the street. The storm water then turns and washes through the alley between 6th & 7th Streets. It then goes through our carport and yard washing our mulch away in places. Oak street was paved in the past and is higher than the storm drain at 7th and Oak so any excess water has do go through the gravel parking instead of down the street. I would be happy to meet someone to look at this problem. Thanks.

Sorry if this is duplicate submission. Not sure last one went through. I have gulley in front of my house that is blocked by growth coming up between sparse rip rap. Water is eroding the gulley by finding path around foliage and leaves carried from upstream. Went out today after rain and water in not draining well at all. Report not submitting with pic so trying again without the pic

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

This is in regard to Complaint #179493. I received a message saying that the storm grate has been replaced, but it doesn't appear as though it has been. Either that or the old, problem grate was replaced with an identical one, meaning it won't solve the problems we have been having repeatedly over the years.

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

510 E Lakewood DR

Case Date:
4/28/2022

In November the city engineering team came out and added a new side inlet to an existing drain that goes under Dunn street from the back of 2950 N Lakewood. However, the only erosion prevention put in place was some straw. With all the nearby honeysuckle/plant removal the recent storms have caused a lot of the nearby dirt (and straw) to move and now the drain is almost completely filled with dirt and debris that has entered in the last couple rain storms. I tried reaching out a few times (Kriste L and Phil P) this past winter but haven't seen anything put in to help hold the dirt in place until some plants/grasses grow in. The water flow is certainly much improved with the new inlet, but in my opinion the job is just not quite complete.

Sewer Problems (Storm Sewers)

114 E 19th ST

City crew recently dug out this drainage ditch from 19th & N.Wash St. west along 114 E 19th. Last heavy rain washed large amounts of debris and gravel down to this area. Both grates are blocked - large amt of gravel is piled up in the ditch. Storm grate that had been buried before work is completely covered. Burlap lining ditch is pulled back from flooding. Looks rough. I have more pics but could only attach one. City crew needs to see how their recent work fared.
