Traffic Suggestions

1800-1820 North Kinser Pike

Case Date:
8/28/2017

In the morning from 7-9 the traffic gets extremely backed up on Kinser Pike coming from the North, the neighborhoods and the school buses from the High School. The left turn signal, to turn on to 45/46, is extremely short, less than 10 seconds I would say, and then it's extremely hard to turn left on green as there are lots of cars coming across the intersection. Is there any way to make this turn signal longer for at least those 2 hours in the morning? Traffic is sometimes backed up all the way to the Skate Park, which is on a curve so that is very dangerous. You round the blind curve and all of a sudden there is stopped traffic. Thank you for your consideration in this matter!

The crosswalk on Henderson near Templeton school between Driscoll and Wilson continues to be dangerous. We use it daily to and from school with many other kids and routinely have close calls with cars speeding through. I think part of this is foliage blocking the flashers, but would like to also suggest pedestrian flags be provided on both sides of the street. We've used them living in other towns and they are really great. Here's a website that explains their use in another city http://www.kirklandwa.gov/depart/Public_Works/Transportation_and_Traffic/Pedestrian_Flags_-_FAQs.htm

"Head start" for pedestrians. Use the NYC trick, give walkers a 7 second head start before turning the light green. This intersection, the one on the bypass and 10th, and the Kirkwood Walnut crosswalk are just 3 places drivers ignore pedestrians as they only look at cars so they can make right turns. Please. They're going to run us over. Look at Saturdays NYtimes.

4098 East 10th Street

Case Date:
1/10/2018

I was traveling east on 10th St. and got into the right-hand turn lane (with turn signal on) to turn right/south on Smith Road. As I turned right, a car facing north on Smith Road turned left to head west on 10th St. and did not see an oncoming car and the eastbound car on 10th street had to brake quickly to avoid an accident...stopping within a few feet of the turning car. With the new traffic light at the Post Office intersection on 10th st, GPS is routing more people east/west on 10th street to/from Smith Rd and more locals are also using this route. This is turning an already dangerous intersection more dangerous. Turning left off smith onto 10th street requires timing to avoid a car coming east around the curve on east 10th street...and the same for turning left onto Smith off 10th street. Please consider a stop light at this intersection. Thank You.

Large semi trucks turn off Rogers onto W. 4th. When they get to the cemetery, they can't turn right onto Elm nor go into the cemetery to turn around. There is a sign at the entrance to the cemetery that says no large trucks. It would be helpful if there we a sign at Rogers and 4th. My tree branches are often knocked off and I fear that my car or someone else's will get hit as these large trucks back down the street to where they can turn. Thank you. Gracia Valliant

132-142 South Jordan Avenue

There are no speed limit signs on the part of Jordan ave that goes through campus (i contacted IUPD about this and they told me because it was a city street to contact the city). IUPD also told me the speed limit on that part of Jordan is currently 30mph; with the new work done last year, there are now five pedestrian crosswalks not at intersections on this section of the road, so that speed is probably too high, particularly with the hill and curve in the road near the Musical Arts Center.

The intersection at Park Ave and Hunter Ave is a 2-way stop. There are multiple accidents there every year because: 1. The cars parked along the side of the road block views for those crossing Hunter 2. There is a large bush on the southwest corner that completely blocks the view west. Making this a 4-way stop would be much safer and easier to navigate.

3924 East Tamarron Drive

Hello. I am the property manager for Tamarron HOA. There is a cross walk to Univeristy Elementary School from Tamarron. We are having issues with speeding vehicles and children crossing the street. At the HOA board meeting tonight it was suggested putting a three way stop sign at the intersection of Callery Drive and Tamarron Drive to at least slow the traffic down. Who do we contact about this? One Board member brought up if there is a stop sign on the north end of Callery Drive and Tamarron Drive, it will re-route cars down the south side of Tamarron so maybe installing two stop signs at each end of Callery Drive and Tamarron Drive. Thank you for considering this.

2801-2907 East Buick Cadillac Boulevard

Case Date:

This intersection has become more and more dangerous in the last few years. I work at Curry Buick in the sales department and I have seen many near misses. Any vehicle traveling east on Buick-Cadillac Blvd and approaching the intersection at Auto Mall Road is somewhat hidden due to the fact that the road is curved behind the cars parked in the vicinity. I would suggest either painted curbs to open up the sight lines or even a 3 way stop. I hate that we have to keep stopping the traffic in order to control, but this area has become more and more a concern.
