The project consists of various improvements to West Second Street between the B-Line Trail and South Walker Street. Please follow the link under "Attachments" below entitled "Bloomington-Second Street" to view the concept plans.

A two-way protected bike lane will be constructed on the north side of West 2nd Street from the B-Line to South Walker Street (connecting the B-Line Trail with the multi-use path on the north side of West 2nd Street/West Bloomfield Road). Additionally, the two existing traffic signals at the intersections of West 2nd Street & South Rogers Street and West 2nd Street & South Walker Street will be replaced and modernized. New storm sewer and drainage improvements will be installed throughout the corridor. Accessible sidewalks, curb ramps, and bus stops will also be provided along the full length of the project corridor.

The project is programmed in the Bloomington-Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization's Transportation Improvement Program and is receiving federal transportation funds. Additional funding is provided by the City of Bloomington Parks G.O. Bond through City Council Ordinance 22-14.

This project supports the goals and recommendations defined for this corridor in the city's 2019 Transportation Plan. Additionally the project will support the redevelopment of the IU Health legacy hospital site for the Hopewell Neighborhood. This project is will also support Building Trades Park and the Building Trades Park Master Plan. Bus stop upgrades in collaboration with Bloomington Transit will support the Transform BT Strategic Plan
