The land that makes up the 14-acre Crestmont Park, and nearby Mills Pool, was purchased by the City of Bloomington Department of Redevelopment in 1967.

Land and Water Conservation Fund
The picnic area, picnic shelter, trails and walkway, playground, and sport courts were partially funded in 1974 by the Land and Water Conservation Fund through the U.S. Department of Interior and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
