Dear Mr. Mayor
Once again tonight one of my managers had to kick another homeless man off of our back porch area. This same man was warned about trespassing on our property just a week ago and was told that if he came back on our property that he would be arrested. Officer Kevin Frank was the responding officer after we had to call a second time to get anyone to respond. Officer Frank talked to the man and just let him go warning him again that he was trespassing once again and then informed my manager that since the officer didn't see him on our property that he couldn't do anything about it.
The Man admitted to the officer that he had been on our property again tonight but nothing again was done. I don't understand why the police are not able to do anything even after this man has been warned that the next time he would go to jail. I'm sympathetic but when my employees are being threatened and spit on things are getting very much out of hand! What is going to take? Maybe one of my employees getting hurt before anything gets done with this problem? One of my customers told me she works in the poplars building and she is doesn't feel comfortable walking to Cafe Pizzaria for lunch in the middle of the day!
Things a really out of hand and if one of my employees gets hurt because of this problem I am going to be very upset that nothing is being done. I don't know what the answer is but I do know that our police chief has reached out to us and I appreciate this very much but when nothing happens after warnings have been issued ... Very frustrated with our city government!
Thank you for hopefully taking the time to read this,
Sincerely,
David Webb/Cafe Pizzaria,Inc.

I'm tired of being solicited by homeless people anytime I walk around downtown. I love this city and I love living downtown but I am hesitant to even walk a few blocks away from my apartment because I'm relentlessly confronted by homeless people. I have no problem with homeless people and I'm willing to pay my part of the taxes to get them steady jobs and homes, but soliciting hard working residents should not be tolerated and the authorities must step in

Hello,
I live near the Building Trades Park. For at least the past six weeks, the shelter nearest the playground has been consistently occupied by the same three to six individuals. They are most likely homeless.
About three weeks ago, they became violent with our neighbors, and the police were called twice. Two individuals in the group displayed a knife and a metal pole. Arguments seem to keep breaking out.
These individuals also frequently have one to two dogs with them, which are not leashed.
If other residents wished to use this shelter, they cannot. This group is there from at least 7am (when I leave my house in the mornings) until the park closes around 11pm.
I don't feel safe knowing that this group has claim "turf" as if the shelter is their home. I've voiced my concerns with a Park Department Employee who told me that the group is entitled to stay there. This is a public park, not their home. I have lived on Howe Street for the past two years, and this has never been a problem. However, I do not feel safe anymore. Please address this issue.
Thank you for your time.

There are a group of homeless men practically living at building and trades park. They park scooters in the shelters, smoke, stash stuff under the deck and make the space generally unavailable for others.

No Walnut St @ 12th and under the railroad bridge: Weeds are extremely overgrown and it's nearly impossible to walk on the sidewalk. This area is ALWAYS overlooked (snow in winter is treacherous!). There are many people who walk this stretch daily to get to the CVS store at 14th and Walnut. It's already a dangerous stretch as cars fly down that hill beginning at 11th St. Add to the mix, the 'trolls' (aka: homeless people) who 'live' under the bridge at times until the area is saturated with a strong urine stench. With all the traffic passing by this location daily, why can't this be better cared for - instead of an eyesore?!

I've noticed more and more (unofficial) signs at the roundabouts throughout town. There is already enough difficulty and danger with people learning to use the roundabouts, and I think allowing signs to be placed there is an additional distraction to drivers. Examples include signs for local performances and craft shows. Don't get me wrong, I support those events. I just don't think their signs should be at roundabouts to possibly distract drivers further. Also, the shack that was built at the Winslow/High roundabout is a bit of an eye sore, in addition to blocking the view for drivers. One visitor asked me if it was for homeless people. Other than the shack, I appreciate the landscaping there.
