Along with federal, state, and local agencies, the City of Bloomington is implementing protocols to maintain continuity of City government services to support the community’s well-being and protect residents’ and employees’ health during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
Vaccinations & Boosters
Anyone age five and older may now schedule a COVID-19 vaccination appointment. Schedule your appointment at ourshot.in.gov or by calling 211. The vaccine is safe and free.
Boosters are available to anyone 18 and older.
Mask Mandate
The Monroe County Health Department rescinded its mask mandate on March 3, 2022. Face masks are now optional but recommended in indoor settings. Learn more at co.monroe.in.us.
What you need to know
• On March 3, 2022, Governor Holcomb ended the state's public health emergency order.
• On March 7, 2022, City meetings will resume in-person and many will offer hybrid options. Details for virtual participation will be provided in meeting notices.
• Bloomington City Hall is open with limited access. You can still access services online or by contacting the various City departments here. As you enter City Hall:
- During business hours, you will be greeted at the front desk.
- You will be asked the purpose of your visit.
- An appropriate staff member will be notified.
- You will be shown to a waiting area in the atrium.
- The staff member will arrive and assist you at a service station in the atrium.
- If you are here for a board or commission meeting, please go directly to the designated meeting room.
- Visitors to City Hall will be limited to the atrium. City-sponsored board and commission meetings are an exception, and meeting participants are welcome.
• The Animal Shelter is open for visitations by appointment: Sun, Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sat. You can schedule an appointment at Bloomington.in.gov/animal-shelter. The shelter is open on Fridays for walk-ins from 12 - 4 p.m. We continue to manage the numbers of individuals in our kennels on Fridays, so if it is busy there may be a wait. Our kennels and visitation rooms are narrow so we strongly encourage continuing to mask during your visit. Please call 812-349-3492 if you have any questions.
• Bloomington Housing Authority (BHA) is open on a limited basis by appointment only. Many documents and resources can be found on their website bhaindiana.net or for pick-up outside their main office at 1007 N Summit Street. Those needing assistance can always call the main office during regular business hours at 812-339-3491.
• The Bloomington Police Department has implemented protocols to minimize interaction during shift changes and between patrol officers and administrative offices and to limit exposure for first responders. Equipment and vehicles are being sanitized more thoroughly and frequently.
