People fought and died to allow self government. And have been organizing and protesting and marching and struggling to extend the franchise to people of color. To women. To 18-20 year olds. For More Perfect Union.

Change is always needed……different strategies and tools

The most fundamental is VOTING!!  Great civic ritual begins today.

But now we actually have forces seeking to move us backward. To make voting more difficult. To put more barriers in the way.

20 states have added restrictions on voting – making it harder to vote – in the past 6 years.  Including Indiana. IDs, early vote cuts, purging voters, etc.

People of color are 4 to 6 times more likely to wait in long lines to have to vote, versus white Americans.

Millennials and GenEx’rs are 2 to 3 times more likely to have to wait in long lines to vote, versus Boomers.  [millions of people convicted of crime??]

Sauk City Wisconsin, the office that issues IDs needed to vote if you don’t have one already, is open only on Wednesdays from 8 to 4, but get this, not every Wednesday – only on the FIFTH Wednesday of the month.  There are only 4 FIFTH WEDNESDAYS in the whole year of 2016!! What is that??

Most important we can do is VOTE. Fight against these restrictions yes. But most important is to vote. That changes the world. It defines the future. It is in our hands and our feet. Grab hold and do it!

Thomas Jefferson said: “We in America do not have government by the majority – we have government by the majority who participate . . . All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.”
