Don Griffin:
Hello again, folks. I'm Don Griffin, Deputy Mayor for the City of Bloomington, and this is John Hamilton, our Mayor. And today, we're going to talk about and highlight infrastructure projects underway right now in Bloomington. Do you want to talk about Lake Griffy or Lower Cascades?

John Hamilton:
Well, Don, there's a lot going on in Bloomington all the time, but we thought it would be fun to highlight two infrastructure projects that are really focused on accessibility to helping make our parks accessible to people.

John Hamilton:
Let's start with Lower Cascades. It's a beautiful park, it's our oldest park, and we're just completing a major project down there that's adding 1,200 feet of paved trail and 700 feet of a new boardwalk. So, that's a big deal. The stream is getting stabilized. That's 400 feet or so of the stream bank and a new pedestrian bridge. So, all told, it is a big investment in letting more people access that park. In particular, there's a beautiful waterfall. You've seen it. I've seen that.

Don Griffin:
As a child, I was able to get up. It's scary.

John Hamilton:
It's a little bit of a hike. It's a little bit of a hike.

Don Griffin:
But no more, right?

John Hamilton:
But now, we have a boardwalk that takes you all the way up. So, it's an accessible boardwalk and a paved trail that gets people to that waterfall. And it's also helping the stream be stabilized, the new bridge helping people access. So, it's really making sure everybody can enjoy the park.

Don Griffin:
Fantastic. Now, we've got our other beautiful park up north, right? Lake Griffy.

John Hamilton:
Griffy Lake up north. There's also a cool new project going on up there. Also, a lot about accessibility. There's going to be an accessible fishing pier at it. Now, I'm not a big fisherman. I like to fish. I like fishing some, but this is for making an accessible fishing pier, which is a big deal for people right at the causeway. And it's adding a trail on the west side of Headley Road, which will mean you can now go from the north side to the south side of the lake without having to walk on the road, which is what you used to do. So, it's connecting that whole trail network. These are just two examples of some neat infrastructure projects that are going to help our parks be more accessible to everybody.

Don Griffin:
Once again, we're making our parks more accessible for everybody, for our entire community, and we can get more information at our website. I'm Don Griffin.

John Hamilton:
I'm Mayor John Hamilton.

Don Griffin:
See you next time.
